Why I don’t recommend “Emily in Paris”?

Netflix’s original new series “Emily in Paris” has people all over the world talking, but not always in the best way.

Here are the 5 points I want to share with people. Actually there’re many plots are out of reality and I will explain why you shouldn’t believe the plots in the series are true.

1.There is a lot of French stereotypes

French people are lazy, mean, conservative, not punctual and disloyal to partner. The director focus on these disadvantage in the series. I am not sure whether the director film this way as to emphasize that American is hard working, open-minded and never cheating. I would like to say that will be a mistake if you believe French people being that way.

Paris is the first city I travel to Europe. I felt like every French person has willing to help foreigners. People help me to find the direction proactively when I was lost in subway. I was like “how kind French people they are!” when they lead me the way in person. Clerks show their passion when I step in any shop in Paris. Their passion can let you immerse in a pleasure atmosphere. I also met some French friends who are gentle, genuine and punctual during my trip. Generally speaking, I am really comfortable to be with them.

The most important thing is you shouldn’t use preconceived mindset for any people. Those stereotypes interfere you how to treat people. You will be grateful if you get rid of those stereotypes to meet French people. Drama is drama, this is a show filmed by American but not French people. Don’t listen to other people, find the answers by yourself is the best strategy.

2.It’s not usual people dress up in Paris

Emily always dress up when she is on the screen. Those clothes are elegant, fancy and gorgeous. Actually, you rarely see people dress that way in Paris street. Maybe the director wants to tell people Paris is the most fashionable city around the world. Without a doubt, Pairs is the center of art and trend. But it doesn’t mean people like dressing that way. The drama can only make people who never visit Paris believe people are the screen in daily life.

3.Emily’s relationship is complicated

In my opinion, Emily is the easiest woman I’ve ever seen. She had sex with almost every man who wants to sex. They even don’t have foreplay or flirt. It makes me feel like Emily is horny. She makes love with strangers without a minute. I have no idea what the director wants to express.

Everyone can tell Emily loves her neighbor who has a girlfriend. But she neither insists nor gives up. She kisses her neighbor even if she knows his girlfriend who is her one of best friends in Paris. Meanwhile, she still has intimate relationship with other guys. It seems Emily has crossed the line and betray the friendship. In that way, how can she complain French people like cheating?

4.They put too many American perspectives in the series

Emily’s mission is bringing “American points” to Paris office. But she doesn’t look into French culture or people before she arrives Paris. When the colleagues disagree with her marketing strategy, she doesn’t figure out why they do that, instead, she calls her colleagues stubborn. She should make efforts step by step if she wants to make a change in Paris office. It is unreasonable for people to follow up requirements from a foreigner who is not their supervisor. Moreover, she announces an American principle without any discussion. She supposes her colleagues are not good enough when they disobey the principle.

5.This series only portrays single vision of Paris

Paris is one of the most diverse cities in the world. It has meaningful history, many masterpiece and historical buildings. You will be breathtaking when you visit luxury Palais Garnier; You will admire how French people can build a noble palace like Versailles; You will feel like you are going to meet Quasimod in 14th century when you get into Notre-Dame de Paris. But you can’t get the feelings in the show. You can only understand disadvantages of French people and how to appeal more followers on Instagram. Also, the director focus on those marketing strategies which are impossible working out in reality. The film team takes a fabulous idea to film the series but they doesn’t make audience realize the diversity of Paris.
